Gabrielle Ferrari

Gabrielle Ferrari is a musicologist, arts critic, soprano, and educator from the New Orleans area. She holds degrees in English Literature and Music, and completed her Ph.D. in Historical Musicology at Columbia University in 2024. She is a regular opera critic at the Observer (New York) and a contributor to the New York Times, Parterre Box, and PAJ: A Journal of Arts and Performance.
She served as the director of Columbia's New Opera Workshop from 2020-22. In 2023, she conceived and produced Operatic Feminisms, a day-long symposium bridging arts professionals and academic work on opera at Barnard College. For this event, she commissioned three short operatic works by women composers, all of which premiered with the symposium.
